Orlando, June 2023
In June 2023 my wife and I took a 3 week holiday to Orlando, Florida. We stayed at a beautiful house on a lake and spent our days out on the lake wake surfing and jet skiing. Despite my best efforts I could not keep balance on the board after releasing the rope, this was made all the more embarrassing when my wife did it on her second try, but I didn’t give up and after about an hour of trying I manage to get the hang of it as can be seen in the photo
After being completely outshone by my wife on the wake surf, I was quietly on the lookout for an activity where I could redeem myself. The gun range turned out to be just that. Loud, intense, and unmistakably American, it was a surreal but memorable experience, and for once I could confidently say I had the upper hand. Posing with a machine gun, adrenaline high and focus locked in, it felt like a small but satisfying win, and a reminder that Orlando is full of bold, unexpected experiences far beyond the theme parks.
